I created paper bunting with the words “Thank you” for Heather & Jason. On their wedding day, they asked Bron from Vanilla Photography to take a photo of them with the bunting. I then designed a Thank-you postcard for them using the photo.

Our dream for our wedding day was …
… for it to be unforgettable and fun! We wanted to make sure our day really reflected who we were. We hoped that we could make our family and friends feel loved and appreciated. The day turned out perfectly! Every detail had personal touches, the decor and atmosphere displayed exactly who we were.
We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our happily ever after! <3 Thank you Marike for helping us make our day beautiful!" Heather & Jason
Most people communicate digitally these days through Facebook, text messages, email, twitter, etc. So, some clients like to save money on their Save the Date cards and send it via email to their guests. It’s also a good idea to do it digitally if you have family and friends that doesn’t live close by and need to make travel arrangements as soon as possible. Here are some designs I did for my clients.
A client asked me to design a 50th birthday card for her uncle. Her uncle works for South African Breweries and loves golf and beer.
This weekend it’s Heather & Jason’s wedding. They planned every single detail of the wedding and I am sure that it’s going to be a fun and lovely day! I enjoyed working on their wedding stationery and they gave me a few challenges … from making pop-ups to a spinwheel for their own game. Good luck with the last preparations guys and I hope that it will be a blessed day with family and friends! I can’t wait for the wedding photos, but here are some photos of the save-the-dates, invitations and a sneak preview of the wedding programs.
I designed and created the wedding invitations and name tags for Kelly and Greg’s wedding. The look & feel was freshness and simplicity with a touch of earthiness. The invitations were printed on recycled papers and a brown string was tied around it. This fitted perfectly with their hessian, white and royal blue wedding decor.
Our dream for our wedding day was…
To have a relaxed, fun day without any formalities. We wanted to have our families there and for everyone to be happy throughout the day without any stressing. We also wanted to have a small wedding so that we could spend time with everyone who means so much to us. It was very important for me to have my best friend there and we managed to do that via Skype – there are no words to describe how much that meant to both of us. I think we got everything we wanted for the wedding – even hot, hot weather and a bit of rain right at the end during the party. We loved every minute of our Day and had so many compliments from everyone saying that it was the best wedding they had attended – and this was coming from the people who weren’t happy with us planning a small intimate wedding with only 18 people!

At the end of April we will be moving from Durban to Johannesburg. This will be a new beginning for our family and my business. So, I sat down, read some inspiring books and thought about the past and future of Marike Designs. I decided to create a new brand identity and brand strategy for my business with a bit more focus. I will discuss my rebranding and the whole process in a new post. But the first important thing to me was to update my website/blog to make it fit my new branding. My goal for my blog is to showcase the projects I have worked on and to help creative entrepreneurs understand branding, graphic design and the processes related to it. Thank you to Joanne Reidy for doing my blog make-over. It was fun working with you! I also want to thank Bron from Vanilla Photography for taking the cute photo of me and my dog “Spikkels”.
